OPERATION OUR
TOWN scavenger hunt. This is an outdoor walking or driving
scavenger hunt suitable for any area with shops and businesses (including
malls).
A note about doing this hunt in a mall: Some
folks have told us that their local mall considered the scavenger
hunt an "event" and
it was therefore prohibited; others have told us that picture taking
is not allowed. To be on the safe side, check with the mall before
showing up to do this hunt.
EXAMPLES: Our Town hunt challenges include pictures (15), find
items (12), a fun and creative project and a final team presentation
(optional).
1.
Collect an unusual, clever or creative item.
2. Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you've
never met to draw a picture (you can customize this.
Example: Draw a picture representing team work). Take a photograph them in action.
3. Take a picture of 3 of your team members with a construction worker.
You must be in the classic Village People "YMCA" pose.
OPERATION WHEN NATURE CALLS scavenger hunt. This is an outdoor walking
scavenger hunt suitable for a medium to large park or recreation area
(it was originally designed for a state park).
EXAMPLES: When Nature Calls hunt challenges include pictures
(18), find items (14), a little quiz (3 questions), projects (3)
and a final team presentation.
1.
A cool looking rock containing at least 5 distinct colors.
2. Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you've
never met to draw a picture of nature. Take a photograph of them in
action.
3. Take a picture of the team member who was born the furthest away
from here hugging a tree. All other team members must be in the shot
arranged in a pattern of some sort (tallest to shortest for example).
HOW
THESE HUNTS WORK: Your
group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people (minimum of 3 or
4). Each team will receive a collection bag containing
a digital camera,
hunt instructions, their challenge sheet and various supplies. The teams
will then embark on the adventure hunt, taking pictures,
obtaining specific items and completing various projects - all worth
valuable points.
There will be team meets where team members will move to other teams
and additional challenges will be given to everyone.
To customize the hunt, you can easily add additional items, pictures
and
projects to the list. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will present
a creative
and inspiring debriefing of their team effort (or you
can "grade" their
clue sheets to find the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners). You
can easily edit our scavenger hunts - use our teambuilding
ideas to build your own customized one.
IMPORTANT: These hunts are NOT riddle
hunts with clues that need to be deciphered to lead your teams from
location to location.

Operation
Our Town

OPERATION CITY
SLICKERS SCAVENGER HUNT (also known
as OPERATION OUR TOWN PART 2). This is an outdoor walking
or driving scavenger hunt suitable for a downtown or Main Street
location - any area with shops and businesses. Operation Our Town
was so popular we had to create a follow up.
HOW IT WORKS: Your
group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people. Each team will
receive a collection bag containing
a digital camera,
hunt instructions, their challenge sheet and various supplies. The teams
will then embark on the scavenger hunt, taking pictures, obtaining specific
items, solving brainteasers and completing a trivia quiz (not
location specific) - all worth valuable points. There will
be team meets where team members will move to other teams and additional
challenges will be given to everyone. To customize
the hunt, you can easily add additional items, pictures and projects
to the list. At
the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will present a creative and inspiring
debriefing of their team effort (or you can "grade" their
clue sheets to find the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners). You
can easily edit our scavenger hunts - use our teambuilding ideas to build your own customized one.
EXAMPLES: Scavenger
hunt challenges are broken down into the following categories: 16 picture
challenges, 20 collection challenges, a mini trivia quiz (5 questions)
and 5 brainteasers - trivia and brainteasers
are not location specific - to
solve in exchange for play money.
1. Take a picture of your entire
team looking like bored teenagers copping an attitude in front of
a place you’d think teens would
absolutely hate. Where are you and why did you select this place?
2. What’s the cellular message? That’s it. You’ll
know it when you get it; IF you get it. Be prepared. (More details
on how to set this
up are included in the hunt.)
3. Collect some dog or cat kibble (worth 500 points); collect a bobby pin (worth
100 points).

So which scavenger hunt game should you select, Operation Our Town
or Operation City Slickers?
If you’ve already done Operation Our Town,
then City Slickers it is (stating the obvious we know). If your group
consists mainly of kids, we recommend Operation Our Town over City
Slickers. If your group consists of adults and you’ve never done
one of our hunts before then either one will be an excellent choice.
Both have very fun picture challenges, both have items to collect.
Operation Our Town is more "arts & crafts" creative with
a hands on project to complete and City Slickers is more "cerebral" with
its brainteasers and trivia. Click on the links above for more
details about each hunt.

OPERATION
WHEN TIME FLIES SCAVENGER HUNT. A timed scavenger hunt suitable for
your office complex* or you can take it out
on the town. Picture challenges, word search/find items
challenge, bonus challenge and final team projects. *Not
recommended for a one-room office; it's preferable if you have
a whole building and even outside areas to work with just to
give your teams more options and to make sure they're not getting
in each other's way. This will also work in an area with shops
and businesses.
HOW IT WORKS: Your
group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people (minimum of 3
or 4 to a team). This hunt is a timed hunt broken down into 2 timed
challenges*: Photo Ops and Find Items** (with a bonus challenge thrown
in for good measure). Your teams will have 45 minutes to complete
part 1. They will then report to your organizer to get part 2. The
teams will then be given another 45 minutes to complete part 2. There
will be team meets where team members will move to other teams and
additional challenges will be given to everyone. To customize the
hunt, you can easily add additional items, pictures and projects
to the list - whatever you need/want to do to make it best suit your
needs. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will do a final project
- we provide several different projects to choose from (or you can “grade” their
clue sheets to find the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners).
*OPTION: You
don’t need to time each challenge section. Just give
the teams this entire hunt and 1 ½ to 1 3/4 hours IN TOTAL
to complete it.
**The teams will have a selection of picture challenges
to choose from; their goal is to take 8 great photos for the highest
number of points possible). They'll also need to obtain specific
items which they'll find by solving a word search puzzle - these
are also worth valuable points. There's also an additional bonus
challenge for them to complete.
EXAMPLES:
1. Take a picture of your funniest team member creatively
using a flashlight or a plunger. POINT VALUE: 500.
2. Interpretive Photo (the teams will create a photo that pictorially
represents a nonsensical or silly statement. They have a whole list
to choose from.) Example: This little piggy went to market; this
little piggy stayed home; this little piggy ate roast beef; this little
piggy had a really bad itch. VALUE: 2,000 POINTS.
3. The teams will solve a word search of 20 hidden items; they'll need
to then find 10 of those items. Example: aspirin. VALUE: 100 POINTS PER
ITEM.

OPERATION
RECOVERY SCAVENGER
HUNT. This is a ‘find items’ scavenger hunt as
well as a covert operative type adventure, complete with undercover
agent(s), retrieval objectives and secret codes to decipher. Outdoor,
walking or driving hunt. Requires a location with stores and businesses.
HOW IT WORKS: Your
group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people. Each team will
receive a collection bag, a
collections
list comprised of about 80 items (each
item is given a point value depending on the degree of difficulty in
obtaining said
item) and
part
one
of the covert
mission called Mission: Cloak and Dagger. The teams will then embark
on the adventure hunt. During the hunt, they’ll need to meet with
undercover operative(s) - usually your facilitator(s) - to receive additional
Mission Cloak
and Dagger objectives. Their ultimate goal in Cloak and Dagger is to
collect pieces of a coded map and decipher it. There will
also be team meets where team members will move to other teams and additional
challenges will be given to everyone. At the conclusion of the hunt,
the teams will present a creative and inspiring debriefing of their team
effort (or you can "grade" their clue sheets to find the 1st,
2nd and 3rd place winners). You
can easily edit our scavenger hunts - use our teambuilding ideas to build your own customized one.

to do. All hunts are formatted in Microsoft Word and you can
email us for suggestions and help if you need it.

OPERATION
VIVA LAS VEGAS SCAVENGER
HUNT
HOW IT WORKS: This
hunt is designed specifically for Las Vegas. Your
group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people. Each team will
receive a collection bag containing
a digital camera,
hunt instructions, their challenge sheet and various supplies. The teams
will then embark on the adventure hunt, taking pictures, obtaining specific
items and completing various projects - all worth valuable points (see
the hunt examples below).
There will be team meets where team members will move to other teams
and additional challenges will be given to everyone. To customize
the hunt, you can easily add additional items, pictures and projects
to the list. We'll also give you suggestions on how to adapt
the hunt to best suit where you are in relation to the "the
Strip" aka Las Vegas Boulevard. At the conclusion of the
hunt, the teams will present a creative and inspiring debriefing
of their team effort (or you can "grade" their
clue sheets to find the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners).
EXAMPLES: Scavenger
hunt challenges are broken down into 3 categories: pictures (about
15), a Las Vegas trivia quiz, projects (2) and
item collection (varies depending on how many
casinos you'll have the teams visit).
1.
Take a picture the team member most likely to lose at gambling
looking destitute as he or she poses in front of a sign that includes
the words “Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada”.
2. Collect a brochure or advertisement from the chapel where Mickey
Rooney got married…8 times. 1000 bonus points if you can
name all his brides.
3. Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you’ve
never met to draw a Las Vegas-themed picture.
4. What is third base in a casino?

Operation
Viva Las Vegas

All our
hunts are formatted in Microsoft Word which means you can EASILY
edit them to personalize the hunt for your event. For example, If
you're going to a place you've never been, search the Internet for
the "city
name" and the results will provide you with informative web
sites you can use to plug in location specific challenges. So instead
of "Take a picture of your most dramatic
team member with someone famous" you can edit the challenge
to "Take
a picture of your most dramatic team member doing something dramatic
in front of the oldest casino in Las Vegas".

LENGTH
OF ALL SCAVENGER HUNTS: 2 - 4+ hours, depending on the size
of your group: 10 minutes for opening instructions, warm up game
and team organization; 1 1/2 - 2 hours for the hunt and about 1/2
hour (or more) for grading, team presentations, awards and optional
team assessment discussion (timing largely depends on the number
of teams: the more teams, the more time you should allow).
PRE-HUNT
PREP TIME: For
up to 6 teams, you can put our scavenger hunts together in about 6 to
8 hours (includes shopping for supplies, reading the scavenger
hunt and prepping the materials); as you add teams, you'll
need to add time to the pre-hunt prep. You mostly need to print
(and perhaps edit) the documents included with the kit, pack
the collection bags and you'll need to shop for team prizes
and digital cameras
as well as other inexpensive supplies like clipboards, bribe items and
such. Our facilitator guide provides a supply checklist for
you.
TEAM
OBJECTIVE: Form
an efficient and effective team that communicates well, works by consensus
and has a definite plan of action to complete this adventure hunt.
